RED WINES
9 ONE CHAIN SHIRAZ CABERNET, "THE WRONG 'UN" - AUS - £14.95
From the same vineyard as Bin 1 on our list comes this mid ruby wine with mauve highlights. Rich, smoky nose and a bright blackcurrant entry on the palate. The ripe black fruit follows through, with notes of cherries emerging, to a long and sustained aftertaste.
10 SILVESTRE, OCHAGAVIA, MERLOT - CHI - £15.75
From the same vineyards as Bin 2, this Chilean Merlot offers an interesting alternative to the South African Merlot which also features on our Wine List.
11 SANTA ROSA MALBEC - ARG - £15.90
Santa Rosa was originally set up as a showpiece vineyard to illustrate the effectiveness of an irrigation system in the very desert like conditions around Mendoza. This careful irrigation, good levels of sunshine and the high degree of variation between day and night temperatures, combine to produce this fine example of Argentinian Malbec.
12 J+B NO 61 CLARET - FRA - £16.50
A Right Bank oak – aged Merlot blend produced by Jean-Pierre Moueix that strikes a superb balance between fine tannin, juicy berry fruit and complex savoury flavours. This is the House Claret of Justerini and Brooks.
13 LOUIS CANAS RIOJA CRIANZA - ESP - £17.75
From the same Bodegas as Bin 3 on our list, Louis Canas is now very much at the vanguard of premium Rioja producers and recently picked up the Decanter Rioja Trophy.
14 HAVANA HILLS MERLOT - RSA - £18.50
Havana Hills is situated some 18 kms from CapeTown and only 7 kms from the Atlantic Ocean and it has won many awards including one of only sixteen five star awards from the highly rated John Platter guide. Kobus du Plessis, the owner of Havana Hills, is a passionate exponent of environmentally sound viticulture and yields from his estate are heavily restricted.
15 SOUTHBANK, MARLBOROUGH, PINOT NOIR - NZL - £20.75
A complex amalgam of delicate red berries & plum, with the savoury nuances of old leather & earth. Time spent in French oak has also contributed additional toasty complexities to the wine's aroma. A complex mouthful of primary fruit and savoury characters with fine grain tannins providing structure and a silky texture. Serve with well seasoned white meat as well as most
red meat dishes.

16 Brunello di Montalcino 2002, UcceLliera - ITA
I was recently in a London restaurant which was selling this wine for £64 a bottle, so our price of £29.95 represents extremely good value.
The Uccelliera estate, located in the warm southern Castelnuovo dell'Abate part of the Montalcino zone in Tuscany, was part of the neighbouring Ciacci Piccolomini estate until 1986 when it was purchased by Andrea Cortonesi. Located south-west of Montalcino, with an ideal climate and soil for vines and olive groves, the estate presently has a vineyard surface of 2.5 ha where Sangiovese for Brunello is the main varietal with a small percentage of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. The vineyards have a south-east exposure and total production for the estate is less than 1000 cases yearly!
