The Ship Inn Annual Wine Tasting | Friday 5 December 2008
This notorious event will take place on Friday 5 December 2008 when we shall be sampling wines that have been put forward by suppliers to be on our list for 2009. We feel that after seven years as our House Wine, it is maybe time for a change away from the McGregors Wines that have served us so well through most of this decade. However, we shall only change if there is a decent alternative. Tonight will be your opportunity to look at these alternatives and to taste the White, Red and Rosé wines that have been put forward to potentially go on next year’s list. We shall also be treated to some Cajun music from our old friends Three Point Turn and Guinness will be running a promotion on the evening.

Festive Paper Chain
For many years we have put up a Paper Chain in The Ship during the month of December to raise money for a local cause. Customers buy as many ‘links’ as they wish for 20p and put their name on them before they are added to the end of the chain. The entire chain is taken down on New Year’s Day and put in a black bag from whence one lucky chain is drawn. The Winner receives half of the takings with the other half going to the local cause. In 2007 we had our longest chain ever covering the beams in both rooms of the bar largely due to the effective selling techniques employed by Marie of our bar staff. The lucky winner was Mr Wilkie of Elie and over £150 was given to the Elie and Earlsferry Christmas Lighting Fund run by Elie Improvements.

Christmas & New Year
The Ship Inn will be closed on Christmas Day but is open on New Years Day although we are not doing meals. On Hogmanay our menu is similar to the rest of the year and bookings are taken as normal from the bar.
